What We're Doing In Our Gardens

Jon Creates a New Border

With Spring finally here, we’re excited to get out in our own gardens and we wanted to share with you what we’re up to!

Coolings Horticultural Manager, Jon Reburn is busy creating a new border in his garden and as, ‘King of Plants’, here at Coolings, we’re all keen to find out what he has chosen and why.

I’m currently renovating my cottage garden, and this spring I decided to create a new mixed border along a Victorian barn wall. I have started by planting a selection of beautiful David Austin climbing roses at the back of the border against the wall. No cottage garden is complete without climbing roses and their blooms will look stunning against the wall come the summer months.

I am also planting an Osmanthus Burkwoodii in this border, a large evergreen shrub with clusters of small, highly scented jasmine-like white flowers in April and May and blue-black fruits in late summer to autumn. I often recommend this shrub to customers to plant in borders because it’s low-maintenance and provides year-round interest.

Next I need to decide what else to plant in my new border, watch this space!

We will be sharing more updates from Jon and the team on our Facebook pages over the coming week, keep an eye out!
