- When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow on in cooler conditions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting outdoors. Plant at a distance of 45cm (18in) apart in a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Plants prefer a deep, fertile soil and will benefit from the addition of some well rotted manure or garden compost to soil, prior to planting.
