- Sow late winter to early spring at 18C (65F) 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in a good free draining seed compost, seal in a polythene bag after sowing and place in complete darkness until the seeds start to germinate. Germination usually takes 12-18 days although can be longer than this on some occasions.
- When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 1-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost 3cm (12in) apart in sun and ordinary well drained soil.
