  • Soak seeds overnight in cold water and/or file a tiny notch in the seed coat before sowing. Germinate at 20-30C (68-86F) individually in pots on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Apply a layer of compost or vermiculite, 6mm (¼in) deep. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 10-17 days.
  • Transplant seedlings into 13cm (5in) pots and grow on in cooler conditions for at least 14 days before planting out in late spring after all risk of frost. Plant out 3cm (12in) apart. FOR POT PLANTS: Transplant in a soil-based compost to 2cm
  • Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage further blooming.
