- Alternatively, grow cornflowers indoors from August to September for early summer flowering next year. Sow on the service of a good quality seed compost at a temperature of 18-23C (65-73F) and cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Do not excluse light as this helps germination. Overwinter in cool, lightl, frose-free conditions before planting out the following spring, or growing on as greenhouse pot plants.

Cornflowers are a cottage garden staple. This patriotic blend adds a real injection of colour to annual boarders and large containers. Can also be direct sown in between larger perennials and shrubs as a seasonal gap filler. The three strong colours look great in vase and posie displays too.
