An easy-to-grow ornamental perennial for a sunny spot, best treated as a HHA - Half hardy annual. Sow March-April under glass, flowers July-September.
Sow seeds in small individual pots in a propagator or in a greenhouse at approximately 18-21°C (65-70°F) using a moist seed compost. Cover with a fine layer of compost. Germination usually 25-35 days. Transfer resulting seedlings to larger pots when large enough to handle and grow on. Acclimatise to outside conditions before planting out in a warm, sunny position 15cm (6") apart. Commelina prefers a light, well drained soil with added leaf mould where possible.
