- An acer can be deciduous trees or large shrubs with paired, often palmately-lobed leaves and small flowers followed by characteristic winged fruits. Many have fine autumn colour, and some have ornamental stems
- Acer 'Beni-Schichihenge' is one of the best variegated forms of Japanese Maples. Translated to "red and changeful," Beni-Schichihenge lives up to its name with the variety of colours produced throughout the seasons. Spectacularly white, margined bluish/green leaves are overlaid with pink and orange hues in the spring and summer before glowing with orange and gold tones in the autumn
- Grow in moderately fertile moist but well-drained soil in full sun; will tolerate partial shade but foliage colour best in a sunny location
- Height and spread in 20 years: 2meters x 1metre
- Watch out for pests such as Aphids & hores chestnut scale that may cause problems for the tree. Field maples are also suseptible to Verticillium wilt a fungal disease that lives in the soil. It invades susceptible plants through their roots and spreads through the plant’s vascular system
