  • A medium-sized, deciduous climber to about 3m, with bright, mid-green foliage, flowering from mid-summer to early autumn. The pale purplish-pink flowers, up to 15cm across, have four to eight, broad, pointed petals with narrow bases, and cream and dark red stamens.
  • Foliage: Deciduous. Habit: Climbing.
  • Position: Full shade or partial shade. Aspect: East-, north-, south-, or west-facing.
  • Soil: Chalk, clay, loam, or sand. Moisture: Moist but well-drained. pH: Alkaline, neutral, or acid.
  • Ultimate height: 2.5-4m. Time to ultimate height: 2-5 years. Ultimate spread: 1-1.5m.
  • Beautiful lavender-pink flowers. Deciduous climber. Flowers from June to September. Plant in moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm (2-3in) deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Can be grown in containers at least 45cm (18in) deep and wide in a soil-based potting compost. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings taken from spring to late summer, or by layering from late winter to spring. May be affected by powdery mildews, clematis wilt and clematis slime flux. Suggested planting locations: city and courtyard gardens, cottages and informal gardens, patio and container plants, flower borders and beds, and wall side borders.
