Water at the right time
Watering later in the evening when it is cooler means that the sun won’t be drying your water up! Less evaporation means more water for your plants. You may also want to consider watering early in the morning before the sun’s heat has set in.
Check if the plants need water
Some plants are very thirsty, but many plants will only need to be watered a few times a week, rather than everyday. Check the requirements of the plants in your garden to ensure that you aren’t overwatering them. Plants in pots are likely to dry out faster, so check their soil to see how dry it is.
Recycle your water
Install a water butt (or use a more homemade method such as a trug or bucket) to collect rainwater! You can use this water for your plants, preventing wastage. We do this at Coolings, Rushmore Hill, where we have two reservoirs which harvest rainwater which we reuse. Shop Decco Strata 100lt Slim Water Butt on our website.
Water at the roots
When you water your plants, try to water as close to the roots as possible. Watering from the top could lead to leaf damage and may prevent the water from reaching the bottom of the plant where it needs to go!
Weather dependent
If it’s been recently raining then your plants are likely to have received enough water to keep them healthy! If rain has been sparse then it may be time to give them a drink.
