Aeschynanthus 'Mona Lisa' (15cm Hanging)

Product Code: 218400
£20.99
  • Common Name: Lipstick Vine
  • Commonly called the lipstick plant because of the tubular scarlet flowers, which are held near the tips of the trailing stems by a darker sheath-like calyx.
  • Sold in a 15cm nursery pot
  • Light: Good light, but out of direct sun.
  • Watering: Water moderately during the summer months, but do not soak the soil. Allow the surface of the soil to dry out between waterings. Never allow to sit in soggy soil as this can cause root rot. Water less frequently in the winter
  • Temperature: Prefers a warmer position away from cold draughts. Temperatures below 10°C will damage the plant and cause chilling, turning the leaves a dark red
  • Humidity: Likes a high humidity, with the ideal location being the bathroom or kitchen as these are typically steamier rooms. Regular weekly misting is a good way to increase humidity levels

Description
Commonly called the lipstick plant because of the tubular scarlet flowers, which are held near the tips of the trailing stems by a darker sheath-like calyx. This eye-catching plant looks great cascading over the edges of the pot - even when not in bloom! Although not difficult to grow they do have certain requirements. They are used to the humidity of tropical rainforests so mist the leaves regularly and keep them warm. Don't let the temperature fall below 55°F or 13°C and keep away from draughts. Water regularly with tepid kettle or rain water from spring to autumn, reducing in the winter to allow the plant a rest with slightly cooler temperatures. Feed regularly through the growing season with a balanced houseplant fertiliser.
