Choosing your perfect real Christmas tree is an exciting task and once you have made the important decision, you want your tree to last for as long as possible. It’s important to keep your tree healthy over the Christmas period and to keep it looking smart and in good shape. Knowing how to care for your tree can be the key difference between a full and healthy tree or a sad looking tree.
These are our four key tips to keep your tree looking its very best.
- As with all plants and trees, your Christmas tree will need to be regularly watered. We recommend using a Christmas Tree stand which holds water (which you can find at Coolings), as this will ensure the tree has a steady supply of water and will prevent it from wilting. Trees are thirsty and will need at least 500ml per day.
- For cut trees, it is advisable to saw a slither of wood from the base of the tree, before putting it up. This will help the tree to take up water.
- If possible, try to avoid bring the tree indoors to early. Remember, Christmas Trees are outdoor plants and so thrive better outside. If you are not putting your tree up straight after buying, allow it to stand in a bucket of water outside until you are. It will prefer a cool dry area away from direct sunlight and wind.
- Keep your Christmas Tree away from sources of heat such as radiators. If it gets too hot then the tree will dry out, and it will shed its needles much faster.
These steps should ensure you can enjoy your chosen tree for as long as possible. Remember that after Christmas, you can bring your real Christmas Tree back to Coolings for it to be shredded.
