Get back on track with a first class ticket to our Summer Flower Exhibition 2017- OPEN NOW

We are pleased to open the doors of our 21st annual homegrown Summer Flower Exhibition for the whole month of July!  The Coolings team are as excited as ever to show customers the best of what we grow and sell here at our on-site Nursery.

Due to the success of last year’s Children’s Stories exhibition we have stayed on the same track (no pun intended) and decided this year to bring Edith Nesbit’s classic novel The Railway Children to life through our spectacular display of homegrown plants.

The Railway Children was first published over 100 years ago, in 1906, and tells the story of three children whose lives are changed forever by the mysterious disappearance of their father.  The story has been adapted for screen several times, but now we have adapted it so we can tell it with flowers!

Designed and executed by Nicky Peto from our Plants team and her small team of helpers, the flower exhibition enables our visitors to see the wonderful selection of plants we stock, colour co-ordinated, and looking their best.   The idea of recreating this well-known children’s tale came from us learning that the setting of The Railway Children was thought to be inspired by Edith’s walks to Chelsfield railway station close to where she lived, and her observance of the construction of the railway cutting and tunnel between Chelsfield and Knockholt.  Lots of facts about Edith can also be found amongst the exhibition.

We have even put together a free quiz for all our junior visitors so they can get busy searching for the answers while the grown-ups enjoy the flowers!  There is a little prize at the end for all completed answers!

The 10,000ft² flower spectacular is just the ticket, with over 300 plants on display.  You will be filled with inspiration while you are reminded of the railway children’s journey of vigilance, courage, kindness and mystery solving along the way.

This year we have chosen to support Smile International and their brand-new venture ‘Sow a Smile’.  As you may know, Coolings are real advocates of supporting community based projects and we think this is a fantastic cause.  All donations from this year’s Summer Flower Exhibition will be heading their way.  Look out for some fab facts about the project and why we are supporting it on your way round!

The exhibition is open every day from 30th June until 30th July 2017.  Free to enter.

We hope you Choo Choo choose to pop along!
