Colourful Autumn Flowering Camellia Sasanqua

A- | A+

Most people associate Camellias with the spring, but did you know there are also beautiful autumn flowering varieties?

Camellia Sasanqua is an evergreen shrub that will bring a wonderful display of colour to your garden through autumn and winter months.

An evergreen plant with glossy mid-to dark-green leaves, this acid-lover will be happy in a container or in the ground. When planting in a container use an ericaceous compost ensuring that it has good drainage.  Position is a key consideration when planting.  Although hardy, it needs to be protected from the early morning eastern sun to prevent bud burn, and needs to be in a sheltered position out of cold dry winds.

There are many different flower forms to choose from and the growth habit varies too, so there are plenty of choices to be made when buying a Camellia Sasanqua to adorn your garden.

Narumigata is an erect form with single white flowers tinged with pink.  Flowers autumn and through the winter.

Plantation Pink is a strong upright plant with a single pink flower with a large central boss of golden yellow stamen.  Flowers from October to December.

Sparkling Burgundy is a spreading shrub with narrow dark-green leaves and ruby red peony form flowers.  Flowers from December through to January.

Yuletide is slow-growing and has a single red flower with yellow stamens and is bright and cheery from November through to January when the garden has very little colour.
