The Language of Roses

The Language of Roses

It’s the turn of the Queen of the Flowers to be in the spotlight. With its magnificent appearance, the classic rose is a welcome guest in every home. The Greeks, Romans and Egyptians discovered the beauty of the romantic rose many thousands of years ago. Unfortunately, we had to wait to the 16th century. Since then, the rose’s popularity has been growing non-stop, and new varieties are added every year resulting in an abundance of choice. One thing is clear: the rose will be with us for a long time.

Over the age, Roses have inspired people to develop a language of roses by ascribing meanings to their colour, variety or number of roses given to someone. For example, traditionally, nothing beats saying “I Love You” more than with a single, red rose (I hope my husband is reading this!). The heart-shaped petals represent love and trust, and the thorns indicate that love is not all roses! Did you know that every colour has its own meaning?

It’s always good to know the symbolic meanings associated with roses when you gift them to your loved ones so here’s a little guide to rose flower meanings below to help you…
